Well people will still be gullible no matter how much information you try tom put out there but for me my top three still remains:

Myth 1: Face masks are a good defence against catching any airborne illness

Fact: A lot of research has been done on the effectiveness of face masks in preventing infection against influenza and other airborne infections (coronavirus). Despite much research, the verdict is still under debate. There is no evidence yet that masks can protect healthy people in their day to day life.

In fact, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention does not recommend healthy people to wear a face mask to prevent contracting respiratory diseases, including COVID 19.

The best defence strategy to save yourself is by washing hands properly and frequently.

Myth 2: Wearing gloves can prevent you from picking germs

Fact: Surgical gloves are not the best way to avoid germs. Gloves are like your skin, they pick up germs and pathogens from unclean surfaces just like your skin. If you touch your face with these gloves, you might get infected just like you would when you touch your face with unclean bare hands.

For gloves to serve as a protective gear, you need to change or clean them as often as you would wash your ungloved hands.

But when you are caring for someone with an illness like COVID 19, CDC recommends you to wear gloves when you come in contact with the person’s blood, stool or other bodily fluids.

Myth 3: Vitamin C can help you recover faster

Fact: You might have read at several places that a tall glass of orange juice can help you recover faster when you are under the weather. Yes, vitmain is important for immune defence, but even taking a daily dose of vitamin C, reduce cold’s duration only by about 8 per cent, says the National Institue of Health (NIH).

If you start oping Vitmain C, once you are already sick, it won’t do much to speed up your recovery, says the NIH.

We all have a period we forget things from time to time. While this could be a natural effect, there are ways you could still avoid getting frustrated as a result of poor memory.

Studying in school or for a course on your job could pose a threat to your assimilation. Many a time, you have probably wished you had a magnetic brain that picks every ditto detail once you read them. However, there are ways to help improve your memory.

    1. Try to understand the text: When reading a text, it is highly imperative you understand what the material is about. You could either get an executive summary of the text, watch or listen to the text on the internet. This gives you an idea of what the text is about.
    2. Learn the most necessary information: A book has so many information you both need and do not need. As time is of the essence, you need to be able to decipher which is the most information for you, instead of wasting precious time studying what is not necessary.
    3. Take notes: When reading or studying, try to jot down some salient points that would be useful. Taking notes is highly important when reading.
    4. Practice the interference theory: Try to study in chunks. Avoiding marathon-reading would help you boost your brainpower. Take a break while studying. For instance, you study for 30 minutes and take a 10minutes break, this would go a long way to help you remember things you are studying.
    5. Learn opposite things: This is similar to the above point but different in a way. Try to do something different while reading. You know what works best for you.
    6. Build your own “mind palace”: I know a friend who associates whatever he reads with things in his room. It is amazing how he does it, but they prevent him from forgetting the things he read. When reading, try to connect or associate what you are studying with familiar things around you, most especially, your study room.
    7. Makeup stories: When reading things like theories or long reads, try to make a story out of them, fictional or non-fictional, the choice is yours. The story helps whatever you are reading sticks faster in your memory.
    8. Use a tape recorder: When studying, try to read out what you are reading, better still, recite the things you are studying and get them on tape or sound recorder. After a period of time, listen to your own voice recorded, it might sound awkward, but try to listen to it.
    9. Visualize: Try to paint a picture of what you are studying in your mind. It helps keep information longer in your head
    10. Eat well: Study period is not the time to overfeed yourself or underfeed. As much as you are trying to steer clear of sugar contents(Carbs and junks) during your study time, seeing it makes your sleep, eating vegetables or a balanced diet, better still, helps you stay alert while reading.
    11. Choose only the best materials: Textbooks could be outdated, do yourself a huge favour of going online to get what is latest in the world of the subject you are reading.

Following these, would help your brainpower and aid your memory retention.

Living in Lagos, as a daunting challenge, could be synonymous to manoeuvring a tanker. Lagos is one of Nigeria’s smallest cities in size, but biggest in commercial and operational activities. Like New York, Lagos never sleeps, activities are always happening; they never stop. Traffic in Lagos could last for hours, regardless of where you work. It is popularly said that “Lagos traffic would not teach you patience, rather, madness”

Lagos stress has been responsible for making people lose inner connection, since everyday is a struggle and everyone is fighting for the best position for themselves, personal time has been a mirage. Practically everyone is frustrated and ready to vent aggression in Lagos, as a result of the stress inherent in the city.

You can manage your stress by

    1. Living in the moment. You owe yourself a time out to enjoy your present moment, without bringing the hurt of the past and uncertainties of the future.
    2. Accept things as they are. It is a norm to wish for better things, no one wants things to get ugly and bad. Do not try to change things because you do not accept them, change the things you derive joy in the process of learning new things. It does not mean you resign to fate when things happen to you, but reduce the stress you give yourself worrying over things you know too well you have no power over.
    3. Exercise the power of visualisation. When stress of whatever source sets in, take a deep breath and take yourself on a rollercoaster of dreamland; dreaming while awake. Try to imagine positive things out of your bad days. Doing this often would help reduce your stress rate.
    4. Practise helathy/mindful eating. Ensure you chew your food more than swallowing to reduce the workrate of your digestive tracts.
    5. Take small steps. It is said that the journey of a thousand mile begins with a step. Do not try to overload yourself with too many steps. As much as you should succeed in your endeavors, pay close attention to the steps you take. Do not choke yourself with too many activities that might throw you off balance with time. So take it step-by-step.
    6. End your day on a positive note. Do not make life difficult for you and others, this is enough stress. Endeavor, as much as possible, to end your day on a peaceful and positive note. Take time out to appreciate the people you have in your life and be thankful for everything.
    7. Ease yourself off any distracting thought. Thoughts are guest with a temporary stay. Thoughts would cross your mind, choose carefully the ones you know might disturb you and take your mind off them. You have the power to diffuse or infuse thoughts crossing your mind-path.

First, we need to establish the fact that people who predominantly use their left hands are south-pawed people. And a lot of things are special to them, without demeaning the right-handed folks.

Left-handed or sinistral people wonder why the world is oriented towards right-handed or dextral people. There is no answer to this question, however, do not try to switch yourself or your child to being dextral. Being sinistral is not a bane, neither is it a defect. Most African parents try to switch their wards to being dextral when they discover they are sinistral.

The good part of the gist is that being left-handed has its own advantages.

    1. The most likely to pass a driving test. Statistics has it that 57% of left-handers pass a typical driving test while 47% of the right-handers pass a driving test
    2. They can make more money. Most educated, diligent and hardworking left-handers have the tendencies to make more money than the other.
    3. They are the fastest typists. “Left-handed typists can type up to 3,400 words on the standard QWERTY keyboard, which compares very poorly with 450 words for those using only their right hand. Just remind your colleagues that your typing is probably better than theirs because of this innate gift you possess.”
    4. They have better problem-solving skill. “It must be a coincidence (or is it?) that the last five US Presidents (except George W.Bush) have all been left-handed. From Nobel Prize winners to Mensa members, lefties certainly dominate the world much more than their 10% share of the population would suggest. Looking at Mensa stats, the figure of 20% of its members being lefties certainly suggests that they are more intelligent.”
    5. They are better at a sport. Look no further, Messi, Maradona, and others are the few football icons that have their names in the sands of time.
    6. They excel more in creative arts. “Sinistrals are more likely to be successful than the dextral in music, architecture, and art. They have some pretty solid proof, too: Picasso, Leonardo da Vinci, and Michelangelo were all lefties. Add in Albert Einstein and Beethoven, and you have a great pedigree. Make sure your friends know this when you have your next burst of creativity.”

It is scientifically proven that your right-hand is controlled by your left brain, while your left hand is controlled by your right brain (there are juicy traits on the right brain, not as more on the left brain though)

So, start making use of your left hand or otherwise.

The other day I stumbled on an interesting, mind-blowing song and wanted to have it on my device in case I run out of data whenever I want to watch it again, but there was no option on Youtube that says “download on your device” or something close. I tried every option but it proved abortive until I came to realize how to download from Youtube with ease.

You should know that it is illegal to download from Youtube using a thir-party app, as it is against Youtube’s terms of service, which states that “you are only able to stream videos directly from its servers” Downloading Youtube videos also opens you up to potential copyright infringement unless you have permission from the copywriter holder. The issue of copyright is a big one in developed countries; they do not joke with it a bit. If found guilty, could land you a law suit and fine of over $10, 000.

With the above being established, Youtube offers some ways to download from its web or app platform.

    1. Get 4K Video Downloader: Copy the link of the video you wish to download and paste on this app to download content on your local device.
    2. Download Tubemate: This works more like Youtube and has a similar logo with Youtube. Once you install it on your device, choose your preferred video and download.

The simplest way to download from Youtube web, not App( you could toggle on “watch later” on the App to enable you view videos in offline mode):

Normally a Youtube link is always like http://www.m.youtube.com/watch?v=BW_DYhv-FTU

To download this video, all you need to do is  edit the link and add “ss” just like we have it down here.

    ssyoutube.com/watch?v=BW_DYhv-FTU

Technically, all you are editing or deleting from “http://www.m.youtube.com/watch?v=BW_DYhv-FTU” is “http://www.m.” while you insert “ss” immediately before “youtube”

Enjoy your downloads and do not be caught.

    Cheers

While younger, we were taught not to show off in social situations as it is considered rather rude; Humility was inculcated to us from childhood. Consequently, as adults, we rather consider it odd when asked to talk about our achievements.

On the flip side, a job interviewer would ask you this question to know if you are the right fit for the job. So, you need to start embracing all that makes you great. When asked this question, they do not want you to sound arrogant, rather, they want to know what stands you out from the crowd, since the HR receive tonnes of application documents for a particular role.

When asked this question, they want to know:

    • what you value most in life, how it can be of importance to the firm and whether, of course, you are a good fit for the job.
    • How you view success and whether it relates to the company’s goal/vision/mission
    • whether you are an ambitious fellow and have the impetus to succeed.

    How to answer this question

The best way to prepare for the question is to follow the STAR technique

Situation: In what context did your greatest accomplishment occur

Task: What hurdle did you surmount or intend the overcome

Action: What did you do during the challenge you faced

Result: What was the result of the actions you took? What outcome were recorded after the challenge?

You could wish to answer in the following

    • Giving a great presentation at work
    • Beating sales targets.
    • Training for and completing a marathon.
    • Organizing a successful charity event.
    • Mentoring a coworker or fellow student.

    Rules to answering the question

    1. Think about your values and best qualities
    2. Research the job and company
    3. Be honest
    4. Be specific
    5. Ensure your accomplishment is relevant and recent

    Below are samples

My greatest accomplishment occurred in my previous position as an HR Administrator. I noticed team members often had difficulty locating specific files – which reduced productivity, particularly during busy periods. So I took the initiative to implement a team filing system. I scanned every vital document, which I then saved to shared folders on our computer system. At the end of the month, our timesheets indicated that the time spent looking for files had reduced by several hours.

My greatest accomplishment is when I took over a children’s reading group in my current position as a Library Assistant. Children between the ages of 7 and 12 can come to the library on a Saturday morning, we read a chapter of a book together and then we discuss it. At the time, my official responsibility was to provide customer service at the front desk. However, one of our Library Supervisors retired and no replacement was hired. Due to the lack of staff, the library made the difficult decision to cut the weekly children’s reading group. I was saddened to hear about the disappointment felt by the children and their parents. I volunteered to change my shifts so I worked on a Saturday morning and could run the reading group. I am now the leader of the group. I help choose the books we read, prepare questions for an educational discussion and organize games and other activities. We get around five to ten children per session. Their parents are so grateful we were able to continue the group and I enjoy interacting with children who love to read.”
