Have you been searching for tips to help you read this year? Do you want to read more but you don’t have time?
Anytime I pick up a book, my mind wanders.You’d think it’s easy to do what you enjoy, but that’s not always how it works.It takes discipline to make time to read.
I have always liked reading. But, to be honest, I didn’t read much before. In addition to being a great way to escape and relax, reading can also increase your knowledge, focus and worldview as a business owner.
If you love books but can’t seem to get going, here are my tips;
1: Defining the purpose of reading;
Before you start reading, ask yourself why you want to read this book. There are two main reasons why most people read: either for pleasure or knowledge.
2: Schedule Your Reading Time;
If you want to read more books, find time like you would schedule friends gathering or coffee time. Just waiting to see when you are in the mood doesn’t work, Sometimes you just need to start staying in your mood.
3: Make Reading a Part of Your Daily Routine
Personally, I set reminders on my phone to read everyday. If reading is important to you, no matter how busy you are, you will find and schedule time to do it. Allocating a fixed time to read each day reduces procrastination.
4: Read for Meaning, Not Words
There are times when you are just reading words, you can’t comprehend what exactly the book is saying.
Reading a book word by word isn’t an effective way to read. With just a few important words, your brain can devise meanings and comprehend what the author is saying.
5: Feel Free to Skip Pages
I skip a lot of pages when reading, when I don’t just find them exciting
When it comes to reading for personal pleasure and knowledge, you set your own rules. Don’t feel bad about skipping pages. It helps you move through boring or irrelevant parts quicker, and you won’t waste time reading something that doesn’t serve you.
Benefits of reading can’t be overemphasised, it isn’t restricted to a set of people. We all need to read as an entrepreneur , student, parent etc.
