I started my small business at age 19, online particularly. It has been a roller-coaster ride, funds was a major problem. With my experience and little research I’ll be sharing with you the problems small businesses face in their first few years

5 things to bear in mind

If you’re about starting one, well it’ll be good you prepare for rainy days

1: lack of capital: i remember starting mine with no capital, just data and phone. It was hard because capital is the soul of a business. The financial market doesn’t care about how bright your ideas are, if you are unable to meet their requirements that means no advanced loan/capital for you.

2: Lack of true entrepreneurial spirit: if you give up on things easily, don’t bother starting because there are days you’ll get angry and frustrated but your entrepreneurial spirit will keep you going and make you understand that Rome wasn’t built in a day.  Most business ventures are being led by personnels who do not really have good vision for the business, they do not have the spirit to take risks and that’s what entails in the sector.

3: No visibility or good marketing skills;
So many small business owners are struggling to reach their target market. A lot of the brick and mortar businesses are located in one corner of the market without reaching its full sales potential.

This has led to poor sales, low revenue, and stunted business growth, giving small business owners a lot to worry about. As a business owner you must know how to sell anything, if you can sell you’re good to go

4: Resistance to Change:
If your company is a start-up or has been around for 100 years, innovation can be a frightening thing. But change is real. Don’t get stuck in archaic ways of doing things. Embrace a culture of forward thinking.

5: Spending your profit on unnecessary things: when I started if I make sales i remove the capital and spend the profit and in no time I spent the capital too 🤣

You need to be disciplined, your profits goes back to the business for expansion or other miscellaneous like ads etc
This isn’t really all but these are the ones that comes first and has a great effect on small business

Relationships generally requires a lot of work, dedication. If you’re in a long distance relationship Congrats! You’ve got a free ticket to an emotional roller-coaster ride!

Some days will be fine but there will be difficult days too. Don’t panic as long as you both love each other you’ll scale through. Long distance relationship can be sustained if both parties are willing to put in the work.

There are few things that needs to be put into consideration if you’re willing to make it work;

1: Make trust the foundation of your relationship.

2: communication is key.

3: Make sure your goals align.

4: Avoid excess communication.

5: Stay honest with each other.

6: Be there” even when you can’t actually be there.

7: Focus on the positive aspects of long distance.

8: Feed your emotional intimacy by asking deeper questions.

9: Talk about your future together.

10: Find ways to be a happy person even if you are not together.

Relationships don’t make people happy. People make themselves happy. Happier people are more fun to be around. Find ways to make yourself happy and enjoy your life so that you have positive energy to contribute when you connect or are together.

Before accepting to be in a relationship with that person far away, put these things into consideration and be sure you’re ready to make efforts

A very funny recent video I saw stated: To love is to suffer, to avoid suffering, one must not love, but then one suffers from not loving. Therefore, to love is to suffer, not to love is to suffer. To suffer is to suffer. To be happy is to love, to be happy then is to suffer, but suffering makes one unhappy, to be unhappy one must love or love to suffer, or suffer from too much happiness

The most expensive painting Salvator Mundi meaning SAVIOR OF THE WORLD in English, is a painting by Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci dated to C 1500. After a lost original veiled with overpainting,the painting was rediscovered, restored, and included in a major Leonardo exhibition at the National Gallery, London in 2011-2012.

The SALVATOR MUNDI of Leonardo’s most copied paintings h about 12 known examples executed by his pupils and others. Leonardo’s version was thought to have been lost after the mid-17th century. In 1978, Joanne Snow-Smith developed a compelling case that the supposed copy located in the Marquis Jean-Louis de Ganay Collection, Paris, was the lost original, based on its similarity to Saint John the Baptist.

Many art historians were convinced, as she was able to establish a direct historical connection between Leonardo da Vinci, the engraving by Wenceslaus Hollar and the painting in the Ganay collection

The painting depicts Jesus in Renaissance dress, making the sign of the cross with his right hand, while holding a transparent, non-refracting crystal orb in his left. Leonardo Da Vinci studied many things, such as science, math, engineering, geology, astrology, literature, botany, anatomy, and so much more. His art SALVATOR MUNDI has made him more known in the recent years

His Mona Lisa has become one of the most recognized paintings in the history of art, and was insured as for $100,000,000 in 1962, which translates to $852,000,000 in 2019. A magnificent work, it nonetheless attracted less attention than the Salvatore Mundi, when it went up at auction in 2017.
The Salvatore Mundi was sold for $450.3 million on November 15, 2017 at a Christie’s auction to Prince Badr bin Abdullah. It set the record for the most expensive painting ever sold in a public auction.

Since its cancelled appearance at the Louvre Abu Dhabi there is no way to currently view the work (that is unless you are a personal friend of the current owner). Hopefully it will be displayed again to the public in the near future.

Beans are among the most versatile and commonly eaten foods throughout the world, and many varieties. As a Nigerian and according to our culture while growing up my parents always tell me to eat beans a lot. They said it contains a lot of protein and it’ll make me taller. We used to believe that they mostly contain protein (just because beans are commonly used as a protein substitute for vegetarians and vegans).

Yes, they are a source of protein however, you would have to eat a lot of them to meet your daily requirement.

Beans is often classified as a STARCHY VEGETABLE as it contains more carbohydrate than protein with lots of starch and Fibre. The fibre in beans make you feel full for longer. But be mindful, because even though they contain protein, they are still predominantly carb-based .

If it is your primary source of protein, you may want to cut back on other starchy food portions. You can combine it with other types of food that contains a high percentage of protein.
However, beans also has it’s own benefits;

Benefits of eating beans

1: They are low in fat

2: They are high in natural antioxidants

3: People who consume it regularly may be less likely to die of a heart attack or other cardiovascular problem.

4: Some studies have shown it act as antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents. These effects could reduce the risk of having cancer.

5: it also helps in controlling appetites, the fiber and healthful starches they contain can help create a feeling of fullness and satisfaction.

7: it may help stabilize blood glucose levels or even prevent diabetes, they are high in fibers, which can help lower blood glucose.

Beans has both carbohydrate and protein but the percentage of carbs is much more than the protein.

Bitcoin’s movement in the crypto market lately has been very volatile. The rally this year has hit a speed bump putting it on track for the worst weekly drop ever in almost a year amid wider losses in risk assets.

The largest cryptocurrency in the coinmarketcap this week slumped as much as 20%, the most since March 2021 and is now holding for about $45k as of the time of this post. This has also affected other currencies connected with it (Ethereum and Binance) as seen from the graph below.

Why this fall?

The drastic fall and rough patch for bitcoin comes amid wider chaos in the global markets, as a surge in bond in turn implies growing expectations that inflation are also moving higher and forcing market traders to reevaluate the value of their assets across multiple platforms. By now, it is not longer news that Elon Musk’s Tesla lost about $15m as Tesla’s stocks declined. This is also as a result of this weekly drop

Asset risks are taking a toll at the moment, and we’re seeing stocks slide and crypto is also following, this is because somehow, cryptos are still controlled by the physical currencies. Little wonder central banks of many countries in the world are not in full support yet. The dollar is strengthening which is a good indication to expect a slide in bitcoin and other cryptos.

Can we still trust crypto ?

Bitcoin’s weakness in the face of market fluctuations raises serious concerns and questions as to whether it is suitable to hold value and hedge inflation. This is a growing talk in the community of stakeholders and proponents of the use. Detractors have maintained that the digital assets’s surge is a speculative bubble and it’s destined for a repeat of the 2017 boom and bust. (A rollercoaster I will never forget).

The bot system has come to stay in our technological eco-system. Many websites now use the bot system to interact with customers for conflict resolution, information sharing and a whole lots more. One of the many ways by which businesses attend to customer issues is by providing a support phone line to reach. Sadly, for some of them, when you try to reach them, you are greeted with an option system on the call. (The sad part is that your credit is blown away while the bot give the options to follow). Eventually, there is an option to speak with the call center agent or any technician as the case may be.

The question I ask myself is this: are the options necessary at all?

They might argue that the options will cater for some of the things that the customer need and this reduces stress for them, having to pick all the calls and explain the same thing to the customer, but my research has shown that, a lot of people that reach businesses by their phone numbers want to speak with a human being and not a bot.

What do you think about this ?

I have applied for many scholarships throughout my academic journey before now and gotten a couple of them. My masters program was a scholarship to China to study computer science and I have about two Ph.D. scholarships already secured. Therefore, I’m in the best position to give you this tip.

“Tell me about your academic journey” is a frequent question asked by Professors and graduate academic staffs. While this question may be tough to answer, don’t blame them for asking. They only want to familiarize themselves with you and to know if you’re capable of what you claim you are. So how do you answer this question?

  • Have a story to tell: This method always works. You essentially want to give them a summary of your research journey from being an undergraduate up till masters level, or to what you currently are researching on as the case may be.
  • Show your research prowess and abilities in the essay: It is important to mention your role in the research team, the journal/journals you have published if any and the relevance of your publication.
  • Show your enthusiasm to research: The first thing every Professor wants to see is your zeal and enthusiasm for research. Without this, you may not likely finish your program, because research could be overwhelming at times. Every researcher understands this.

Here is an example that captures all these tips, look at the block below

My research Journey started since 2014 after a course taught by a Professor on data analysis in my fourth year leading to my final project year. I picked interest in data security and integration for identification management and along side two others in the team, we were able to accomplish the task.
At that time, there was a lurking challenge with the Nigerian data bureau department, in that there was no databank or a form of data integration between government agencies. Each agency was almost monotonous, collecting the same information from citizens every time it was required. The project was quite challenging seeing that the task to to develop a mathematical model that could integrate database of different schemas which was a difficult thing to do because we had no prior knowledge of other schemas of data apart from the structured data forms.
With the help of my supervisor and my team mates, we pulled strides of excellence to make this possible using  prototype schemas from from 12 governmental agencies at that time because real user data was not given to us due to confidentiality issues. Hereafter, we published a paper in the European scientific Journal to this effect.

 Furthermore, my interest for data security deepened as I embarked on another journey of research in my master’s program, this time using blockchain technology. After reading several papers on SQL injection attacks, I found a gap i could fill, thereby solving a major problem for database administrator and web developers. At that time, there were many models that dealt very well with SQL injection attack, but these models could not deal conveniently well with second-order injection attacks. This method mimics a previous method developed by Boyd & Keromytis, 2004 using a random key on every SQL keyword, but this time, I not only used random key but used the public and private keys of the stellar blockchain technology, an Ed25519 public-key signature system that verifies the query process. Eventually, my model solved the problem while still maintaining just a little above the response time of the previous models.

 Overall, my journey has been quite an interesting one, having met a plethora of great research minds, in my universities as well as on research network platforms like research gate, where I was able to ask questions and collaborate with other researchers. it is now very glaring that studying and doing research are endeavours I would like to engage in even more.

There are many businesses that could fetch you money in Nigeria; one of which is a cashew nut business, but starting this business requires you to have some information. Nigeria is one of the largest producers of raw cashew nuts in shells worldwide with a yearly export volume of at least $167 million US dollars and untapped yearly potentials of over $115.8 million US dollars. In 2017 alone, cashew nuts exporters in Nigeria exported over 220,000 tonnes of Cashew Nuts. The Cashew Market worldwide is estimated to register a CAGR of 4.6% during the forecast period (2020-2025). Among all the cashew producing nations, African countries contributed 56.5% of the global production, while Asian countries contributed 44%.

Getting Cashew Nut in Nigeria

Currently, Nigeria has about 600,000 surviving cashew trees spread across the East-West, South, and Northern Nigeria, with an average yield of about 200kg to 400kg per hectare. Precisely in Enugu and Abia states of Nigeria, there is a lot of cashew kernels there. You can be in the supply chain from the point of harvest to the point of exporting the raw kernel to countries like USA, Germany, and other European countries. So how do you start?

There are two ways of getting this business started;

  1. One way is by going to the source where the cashew kernel is being collected raw and sacked for sale or

The latter is more convenient and easy to start. You must also

  • Get your customer base ready; find sourcing
  • Get trainings on how to sell rightly

Before now, I never knew that it was very easy to get the Nigerian TIN. In fact, if you have a BVN, you automatically have a Tax Identification Number. Surprised? Let me show you how.

I wanted to use my Nigerian TIN for some official purpose online when I was required to fill in my TIN. In shock I was, I don’t pay tax, I’m just a student, I’m not a civil servant, so i thought, until I went searching and found this link for TIN. All you need to do is to supply the details on the form. Make sure to tick the box which proves that you are not a robot and voila, you have it .

My Major Concern

Does it mean that anyone who knows your details such as date of birth and BVN can easily get your TIN? Hmmmmmm, Well, you guessed right, the answer is YES!. The BVN (Bank Verification Number) in itself is very porous in Nigeria right now. Anyone with access to the phone number used to register for BVN can have it immediately by dialling *565*0#. Hahaha, and with your BVN, so many thing can be done in your identity. Be careful with it out there.

WHY TIN AGAIN?

The Nigerian government I believe are very smart, they know that citizens will not opt in for tax deductions on their own accord. The only way to properly document tax payers is to give them a TIN of-cause. Therefore, they auto-generate it on registering for BVN. BVN is very important in Nigeria, because without it, you cannot carry out any bank transaction.

There are many ways to buy things from China and ship to Nigeria and if possible to your door step. You might be a seller who sells things on jumia, konga, jiji, or any of these e-commerce stores in Nigeria, re-seller who helps others sell their products as a retailer or an outright buyer who just wants things from china because let’s face the fact, China is the No 1. production destination of the world today. This is another good way to make passive income,So how can you buy from china?

I have heard of countless online seminars that people organise in order to teach people how to buy things from china and ship to Nigeria to sell, but the process is really simple. If you know these sites, you are one step closer

With these sites, you can buy just about anything from China today. The major challenges for most people are;

  • These websites are all in chinese, unless you have a Google translate Chrome extension before you can understand anything
  • Secondly, after your purchase, you have to pay in yuan which is chinese currency with the exception of Alibaba, for that, you can pay in dollars. So now you are probably wondering, how can i get yuan, since I’m not in china

How can I ship it down?

There is a website that can help you do this. Buy from china is a trusted platform that many people have employed to ship to Nigeria. All you need to do is fill the form and specify the products to buy, where you have seen them on the site mentioned above, the sellers in china will be contacted on your behalf to ensure the product is quality enough. Thereafter, your products will be shipped down to you.

The advantage of using this service is that you don’t have to think about customs clearing and all the bureaucracy that comes with shippjng to Nigeria, I’m sure you know them already if you’re into this business.

Finally, you get your products from China in any of the warehouses location; Lagos, Abuja or Kano. From there, you can pick up or have it shipped directly to your door step where ever within Nigeria.

Note: Shipping takes 4 days to 1 week to get to Nigeria, and to your door step, could take more than that
